Sanborn, Iowa — A Paullina man has been arrested on felony eluding charges after a pursuit near Sanborn.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 53-year-old Andrew Henry of Paullina is accused of eluding a law enforcement officer. He was arrested on Tuesday.
In his statement, the deputy says he saw the vehicle traveling northbound in the 3500 mile of Redwing Avenue. He says the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed, estimated to be 70 mph in a 55 mph zone, which radar later confirmed. The deputy says he also saw the vehicle speed up to 84 and then 94 mph. He says when he turned on his emergency lights the vehicle did not stop and continued to elude until it became disabled after hitting a cable-stop on a dead-end road. He says the driver told him he eluded the patrol vehicle because he didn’t want a speeding ticket.
Henry was charged with eluding, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 9th.
Henry was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar, and was released the same day after posting bond.
