Primghar, Iowa — A shop building near Primghar was damaged in a fire on Wednesday.
According to Primghar Fire Chief Gary Lansink, the call went out about 3:30 p.m. to 4138 Sorrel Avenue, which is about two miles south, one east, and less than a half south of Primghar. The call said that a shop was on fire.
Assistant Fire Chief Cory Crouch says they arrived to find smoke coming from the walls of the 40′ by 100′ building.
Lansink says the found the fire to have been caused by a nearby trash burning pile that went out of control. He says they found the fire went up the wall to the ceiling, and the fire department had to go back out there on Thursday as the fire was smoldering again. He says they had to scrape out the smoldering insulation from the walls.
No injuries were reported, but there was major damage. He says the contents of the building were not damaged.
Crouch says firefighters were on the scene for three hours the first time and about two hours the second time.
