Sheldon’s VNU Celebrating 50 Years This Year

Sheldon, Iowa — This year, Sheldon’s facility that provides services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and autism spectrum disorder — Village Northwest Unlimited — is celebrating 50 years in operation.

We had a chance to talk to the Village’s executive director, Barry Whitsell, who tells us how it all began.

Whitsell says the community-based approach just works better.

He says there are many benefits to having VNU in town.

Whitsell tells us that of the 40 original residents in 1975, two of them are still with us.

He says there are a number of activities planned to celebrate the milestone this year.
