Sibley, Iowa — An Ocheyedan man has been arrested on felony stalking and drug charges.
According to criminal complaints filed with the Osceola County Clerk of Court’s Office by the county sheriff’s office, 32-year-old Jonathon VanderMeulen of Ocheyedan is accused of violating a protective order and drug offences.
In his statement, the deputy says the sheriff’s office received a 911 call that a subject wanted to go home from work but someone who had a no-contact order with her was sitting outside her place of employment. The deputy made contact with VanderMeulen, who said he was waiting for a friend. The deputy says that when asked for the friend’s name, VanderMeulen allegedly told him he didn’t know the friend’s name, at which point, he was arrested. Later, and the next day, the sheriff’s office carried out a search warrant at VanderMeulen’s home, where they tell us they found a copious amount of marijuana and a substance believed to be methamphetamine.
VanderMeulen was charged with stalking-violation of protective order, a class C felony; and failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a controlled substance violation, and control of a firearm by a felon, all class D felonies. If convicted of a class C felony, he could face up to ten years in prison. If convicted of a class D felony, he could face up to five years in prison on each count. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of methamphetamine.
He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges this Tuesday.
VanderMeulen was booked into the Osceola County Jail in Sibley, and was released two days later after posting a $17,000 bond.
