Hospers, Iowa — A skid loader and the bale it was carrying were destroyed in a fire on Monday evening, December 2, 2024, near Hospers.
According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, at about 5:35 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a hay bale fire at 4941 Monroe Avenue, three miles east and two south of Hospers.
The chief says the fire department saw the fully engulfed skid loader and bale as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.
Overmole says no injuries were reported.
The fire department was assisted by the Granville Fire Department per their auto-aid agreement.
He says the cause of the fire is officially undetermined. Overmole suspects it was electrical in nature.
Chief Overmole reports that the skid loader and bale were both totaled.
He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about an hour.
