Sutherland Man Arrested On Warrant For Drug-Related Charges

Sutherland, Iowa — A Sutherland man has been arrested on a warrant for drug charges.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sutherland Police Department, 47-year-old Christopher Wheeler of Sutherland is accused of the third or subsequent offense of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Sunday.

In his statement, the officer says that back in October, the Sutherland Police Department executed a search warrant for narcotics at 207 West Third Street in Sutherland. During the course of the search officers allegedly located several glass pipes containing an off-white powder in Wheeler’s bedroom. The officer says the powder was recovered from the pipe and sent to the DCI lab. The lab confirmed the powder was methamphetamine.

Wheeler was charged with third or subsequent offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance use.

He faces a preliminary hearing on the charges on February 20th

Wheeler was booked into the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar and was released the next day after posting bond.
