Alton, Iowa — A Minnesota resident and their passenger were taken to a hospital after an accident on Highway 60 near Alton on Thursday, November 21st.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 12:20 p.m., 38-year-old Oleksandr Romenkov of Orange City was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan westbound on 480th Street, two miles south of Alton. They tell us 31-year-old Derek Tollette of Osseo, Minnesota was driving a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on Highway 60. The investigation indicates Romenkov failed to yield while crossing Highway 60 and struck Tollette.
Tollette and a passenger, were transported by Alton Ambulance and Orange City Ambulance to Orange City Area Health System.
The Romenkov Chrysler sustained about $15,000 in damage. The Tollette Hyundai sustained approximately $25,000 in damage.
Romenkov was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way.
The sheriff’s office says the Alton Fire Department, Orange City Fire Department, Alton Ambulance Squad, Orange City Ambulance Squad, Orange City Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted with the response to the accident.
