Winter Weather System Poised To Strike Northwest Iowa

Northwest Iowa — After Monday’s highs in the mid 60s, it seems hard to believe, but a significant winter storm is poised to pounce on northwest Iowa this week. Watches and advisories are posted.

We talked to Hydrologist Andrew Kalin with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, and he tells us what they are predicting.

He gives us the “takeaway.”

Kalin didn’t mention the word “blizzard,” but that is not out of the question. The National Weather Service defines a blizzard as a storm with sustained winds of at least 35 miles per hour and visibility of less than a quarter mile for at least three hours.

Different places in our coverage area have different watches and advisories at this time that are subject to change. For up-to-date weather information, stay tuned to KIWA Radio or visit our weather pages at kiwaradio.com.
