Helen H. Reekers

Helen H. Reekers, age 99, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.

Her service will be 10:30am Saturday, April 21, 2012 at United Methodist Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Marvin Lindley ~ officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon.

Helen Harriett Reekers, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Frohwein) Hosch was born October 27, 1912 on her parent’s farm in Sheldon, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1928, at the age of 15. She went on to attend Sheldon Junior College for two years and then taught at country school in Floyd Township. On August 18, 1933, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Reekers in Trenton, Missouri. After their marriage the couple lived in Detroit, Michigan for two years before moving to Hospers, Iowa to start farming. The couple farmed for 13 years and after their two children were born, they moved to Denver, Colorado for their special education. After twelve years in Colorado, they returned to farming, moving back to Sheldon, to the family farm northeast of Sheldon, where they remained for the rest of their lives. Her husband preceded her in death on October 14, 2007 in Sheldon. Helen remained on the family farm and had made her home at Fieldcrest Assisted Living and for the past few months at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. She passed away at Senior Care on Saturday, April 14, 2012 reaching the age of 99 years, 5 months and 17 days.

She was a loyal member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Her favorite hobbies were gardening, playing bridge and spending quality time with her expanding family.

Those left to cherish her memories are a daughter, Karen Peter of St. Charles, Missouri; a son, Merle and wife, Susan Reekers of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cindy Walker, Marita Schuler, Scott and David Reekers, Mark and wife, Jeriann Peter, five great grandchildren, Jessica (Walker) and husband, Coleman Mallicoat, Brandon Walker, Coleton Schuler, Alexandria and Andrew Peter, one great-great granddaughter, Madison Mallicoat; also other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and three sisters.
