Mrs. Hermina Borgman

Mrs. Hermina Borgman, age 94, of Orange City, formerly of Sioux Center, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 21, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church Chapel in Sioux Center. The Rev. Roger Voskuil will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center. There will be a prayer service on Saturday, at 9:45am, at the church, led by Mrs. Ardith Wynja.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Hermina was born on December 9, 1917, in Orange City, the daughter of Timen and Elizabeth (Huisman) Rens. She was raised in rural Orange City, where she attended a country school.

On September 24, 1936, she married Russell Vande Brake in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City. Many years later, that marriage ended, and he has passed away.

In December of 1979, she married Melvin Borgman in Santa Maria, California. In 1980, they moved to Sioux Center, and in 1990, they moved to Orange City. “Mel” passed away on September 29, 1996. She continued living in Orange City and more recently became a resident of the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center.

Hermina enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards, photo album displaying, and traveling. She and Mel wintered in Arizona for several years, and she had many good times with her friends and family. She was a faithful friend and a loving mother and grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son and his wife, Norlyn and Sandra Vande Brake, of Okoboji; a daughter and her husband, Twila and Kenneth Netten, of Orange City; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Vande Brake, of Sheldon; three step-children, Dean Borgman, and his wife, Karen, of Payson, Arizona; Margaret Wielenga, of Santa Maria, California; and Mary, and her husband, John Jenezic, of Tucson, Arizona; a step-daughter-in-law, Gail Borgman; five grandchildren, Troy Vande Brake, and his wife, Rachel; Steven Vande Brake, and his wife, Mary; Gail Dorn; Kyle Netten, and his wife, Jackie; and Kurt Netten; nine step-grandchildren, including Scott and Sheryl Moret, Joe and Ronda Moret, and Cody and Jennifer Moret; fifteen great-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, John and Gert Rens, of Artesia, California; and Gerald and Audrey Rens, of Escondido, California; two sisters, Helene Jasper, of Seal Beach, California; and Lois, and her husband, Virgil De Vries, of Lakewood, California; and a sister-in-law, Coba Rens, of Orange City.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Virgil Vande Brake, on October 20, 2010; a daughter-in-law, Colleen Vande Brake; a step-son, Jim Borgman; a step-son-in-law, Enno Wielenga; two grandsons, Kel and Scott Vande Brake; a step-grandson, Patrick Borgman; a brother, Bill Rens; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Jasper.

Memorials will be directed to Juvenile Diabetes and the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
