Rudy Petersen, age 91 of Hartley, IA passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, IA on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 12th at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, IA. Rev. David Ericksen will be officiating.
Visitation will be at the Hartley Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, May 11th starting at 2:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Hartley Funeral Home Chapel in Hartley, IA.
Rudolph (Rudy) Henry Petersen, the son of Julius and Hilda (Stephen) Petersen, was born July 23, 1920, in Royal, IA. He graduated from Hartley High School with the class of 1938. On October 13, 1942, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served 33 months in the South Pacific Islands with the B Company 3rd Corps Signal Battalion.
He was united in marriage to Maxine A. McClary on February 12, 1949. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Hartley area until their retirement in 1992.
Farming was deeply rooted in Rudy’s heart, and he loved caring for the land. He also enjoyed gardening, watching Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs baseball games and playing cards with his grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. He passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley on May 8, 2012, having reached the age of 91.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Linda Petersen and Jan Hall; two brothers, Ray Petersen and Rex Petersen.
Survivors include his wife Maxine; two daughters, Peg (Jim) Riddle and Carol Petersen (Clayton Ahsbahs); one son, Steve Petersen (Kelley Fiedler); a son-in-law, Dan Hall; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Bobolz, and brother, Emory (Elsin) Petersen; other relatives and many friends.
