Boyden Hull Comets Headed For State Volleyball Tournament

Orange City Iowa — The Boyden Hull Comets are State Tournament bound following 3-0 straight set win over the Lawton Bronson Eagles Wednesday night in the 2A Region 2 Championship.  Broadcast on KIWA FM 105.3 the match was decided at the MOC Floyd Valley High School Gym. The set scores were 25-12, 25-6 and 25-10.

It was the first ever meeting between the two teams and going in the Comets liked their chances but were not expecting the domineering performance they put together.

That’s Boyden Hull Head Coach Justine Draayer who talked with us after the match. We asked what she felt gave them control of the match.

The Comets came in hitting at 92.5 percent as a team in serve efficiency and made a statement in set 2 rolling to a 25-6 win behind an extended service run by senior Emma Zoet.

After a 25-10 win in the third set it was on to Cedar Rapids. We asked the coach what goes into her Comets becoming a State Tournament team.

Preparation for the State Tournament looks like this.

With the win Boyden Hull ranked #4 in the final 2A regular season poll takes a 24-7 record to state. Lawton Bronson ends the season at 22-8.

Boyden-Hull is the 4 seed and will play Denver at 3 pm on Tuesday November 3rd. Defending State Champion and top ranked Western Christian earned the 1 seed and will play South Hardin at 12:30 pm on Tuesday.  Western won the 2A Region 1 title with their 3-0 win over Emmetsburg Wednesday night.
