Boyden-Hull Looks Return To State Volleyball Tournament For Second Year In A Row

Hull, Iowa — The 4th Ranked Boyden-Hull Comets look to return to the State volleyball tournament for a second year in a row Wednesday night.

The Comets are 27-5 on the year and a led by Jewel Bergstrom, Marissa Pottebaum, and Sarah Boogerd. The Comets received a first round bye in regional play and made quick work of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in the region quarterfinal with a 3-0 win, 25-4, 25-19, 25-11. Bergstrom had 33 assists and Pottebaum and Ellie Woelber each had 10 kills.

In Monday night’s region semifinal, Boyden-Hull only needed three sets to get past Central Lyon, 25-18, 25-9, 25-17. Bergstrom again led the team in assists with 42. Woelber added 18 kills, Pottebaum and Sarah Boogerd each had 11 kills.

Boyden-Hull will face 29-7 #13 Ridge View. The two teams met earlier in the season at the Cherokee Tournament. Boyden-Hull won 2-1 on set scores for 20-22, 21-14, 15-12. In that matchup, Bergstrom had 22 assists, Pottebaum added 14 kills, and as a team had a serving efficiency of 96%. Ridge View was led by sophomore Taya Phillips with 10 assists, and three players had 6 kills each.

First serve is a 7 pm at Sioux City East High.
