Spencer Iowa — After a pair of weather delays it was a game Boyden Hull found worth waiting for. With a 68-56 win over Pocahontas Area Tuesday night in Spencer it’s back to the State Tournament for the Comets. The last time they were there they won the second of back to back 1A titles in 2013. In their first year in Class 2A the Comets find themselves headed for Des Moines.
The Comets led at all the breaks leading 18-13 at the end of the first quarter and 31-22 at the half. At the end of three the lead was 52-40 as they went on to win it 68-56. Keyton Moser led all scorers with 23 points on the night and it was his deep three from the left elbow as time expired in the third quarter that gave Boyden Hull the spark they needed heading into the fourth quarter.
Comets Head Coach Bill Francis on the momentum provided by the shot.
Joining Moser in double figures were Spencer Te Slaa with 13 points and Beau De Jongh with 11. The Indians put three players in double figures as well. They were led by Jace Davidson with 21 points. Christian Davidson and Nathan Aljets hit for 11 points each.
Despite being in control on the scoreboard throughout the contest Francis and the Comets didn’t feel safe until the final buzzer.
It was a true team win for the Comets and it’s been all about team since the beginning.
With the win Boyden Hull will take a 22-2 record into the State Tournament. Pocahontas Area finishes the season at 17-7.
