Nighthawks Upsets Webster City Now Play Thursday

Boyden Hull Rock Valley’s road trip to Webster City was worth the 3 hour trip as the Nighthawks came up victorious 23-14 Friday night.

The Nighthawks jumped to a 7-0 lead after forcing a Lynx 3 and out on the first drive. Caleb Kats found Bryson Van Grootheest for a 65 yard touchdown pass. In the second quarter the Nighthawks added to the lead after Landyn Van Kekerix intercepted a Chase Rattenborg pass.  Boyden Hull Rock Valley took advantage of the good field position and scored when Kody Noble punched it in from 2 yards out.  With 9:40 to go in the first half, the Nighthawks had a 14-0 lead.

Webster City fought back later when Trey Mathis ran in for the score from 41 yards out. At halftime the score was 14-7 in favor of Boyden Hull Rock Valley.

In the second half the Nighthawks extended the lead with a Gael Enciso field goal from 33 yards to make the score 17-7.  That field goal was setup after Brock Fisher stripped Trey Mathis and returned it to the Webster City 35.

Webster City would draw within 3 when Coach Howard drew up a 47 yard 4th down half back touchdown pass from CJ Hisler to Chase Rattenborg.  With the score 17-14, the Nighthawks would seal the game with a 3:54 second drive that traversed 73 yards. Kody Noble ran it in from 4 yards out.  The final score 23-14.

The difference of the game was 5 turnovers by Webster City and a turnover on downs inside the Nighthawk 5 yard line. The Nighthawks didn’t commit any turnovers in the contest.

The Nighthawks will play Thursday at 4PM against #1 ranked Harlan at the UNI-Dome.  Boyden Hull improves to 8-2 overall, Webster City falls to 9-1 and is eliminated.
