Brown Scores 41, Cyclone Women Advance To Quarterfinals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Iowa State (22-10, 12-6 Big 12) downed Arizona State (10-22, 3-15) by a score of 96-88 in the Second Round of the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship to advance to the quarterfinals.

Addy Brown made history, breaking the Iowa State Big 12 Tournament single-game record with a career-high 41 points, taking down Ashley Joens’ record of 33 points set in the 2022 semifinal game vs. Texas. The total is the third most in Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship history, four off the tournament record set by Brittney Griner, and one point shy of the all-time Iowa State single-game record of 42 set by Tonya Burns in 1984.

Emily Ryan, who broke the Big 12 Championship career assist record last season, dished out nine assists to bring her record to 73 throughout her tournament career. Ryan also scored 12 points including going a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Audi Crooks scored in double figures for the 64th straight game with 20, tying the program’s longest streak set by Angie Welle from 2000-02. Crooks shot at 50 percent from the field and made 10 free throws while leading the Cyclones with seven rebounds.

It was the Brown and Sydney Harris show to start as the duo entered double figures and each totaled three 3-pointers in the opening quarter to set ISU on the path to victory. Harris made 12 points as four scored 10-plus. 

How it Happened

Arizona State led by as much as six to begin, but Brown had the answer as she hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give ISU the lead at 12-11 midway through the first. Harris sent in another from deep right after, while the duo delivered three more to total six and end the first ahead 28-17.

The Cyclones kept a 10-plus lead on the Sun Devils while Brown hit 20 points at the 4:24 mark of the second, bringing ISU up 39-24. Iowa State entered the intermission ahead by 11 at 45-34, shooting at 54.8 percent through the half.

Brown kept the show going, draining her fourth from beyond the arc as ISU ran ahead by 15. With five minutes to go in the third, Brown drew a foul and made her pair of free throws to make it 57-40 leading into the media timeout. Brown broke the school record for points in a Big 12 Tournament game with a free throw with the clock at 4:43 as Iowa State’s lead grew to 20 (60-40). At the end of three, the Cyclones led 73-59.

Kelsey Joens fought for the offensive rebound and sent in the tough layup as the scoreboard read 80-62. With a pair of free throws, Crooks totaled 20 points with just over four minutes to play and Iowa State went on to win it 96-88.

Addy Brown totaled 24 first half points, going on to total 41 for her second 30-plus point game this season. Brown topped her previous career high of 31 set this season vs. No. 9 TCU. The star’s final line stood at 41 points (13-of-23 shooting), six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Brown also made 10 of 11 free throws.
