Comets Down Knights, Advance To Substate

Inwood, Iowa — Boyden Hull’s strong second half pushed them past Unity Christian 68-48 in Class 2A Substate 1 Semifinals.

Unity started out the aggressor, scored first and took that momentum and led 12-4 with 2:35 left in the first quarter. The Comets’ Tanner Te Slaa took the offense into his own hands getting the Comets back to within 3 but Unity led after the first quarter 14-11. The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle, but the Comets would tie the score at 24 apiece behind the shooting of Te Slaa with 16 points at half. The Comets came out the aggressor in the third quarter and would out score the Knights 20-6 behind 8 points from Marcus Kelderman and led for 44-30 after three quarters. Bryan Zylstra came off the bench and sparked the Comets with 13 points in the fourth quarter and Boyden Hull would go on to win 68-48.

The Comets had three players in double figures led by Te Slaa’s game high 23 followed by Kelderman with 18 and Zylstra’s 16 points. The Knights were led in scoring by Tanner Schouten with 10 points.

The Comets move on to play in the Substate 1 title game against OABCIG at 7:00 in Sheldon on Saturday evening. Unity Christian ends their season with a 16-7 record.
