Comets Down Orabs in District Semis

Hull Iowa — Boyden Hull defended the home floor against Sheldon as they won the upper bracket semifinal in boys 2A District 3 tournament basketball 55-39. The Comets are on to the District final at the Sheldon High School Gym where they will meet Sioux Central who eliminated Emmetsburg 67-57 in the early game in Hull on Thursday night. Opening tip will be at 7:00 Tuesday night.

The Comets opened fast leading 18-4 at the end of the first quarter. Shane Brouwer hit a three from the top of the arc at the end of the half to put the Boyden Hull lead at 14 points 27-13. The shot sparked the Orabs to an 11-0 run to start the second half as they cut the lead to 33-26 at the end of the third quarter. At one point the Orabs trailed by just 4 points in the second half before the Comets took control in the fourth quarter. 8-of-8 free throw shooting by Andrew Frick  who finished the game with eight points and 4-of-4 free throw shooting by Tanner Te Slaa helped put the game away.

Te Slaa finished with a game high 23 points and was joined in double figures by Keyton Moser who hit for 12. Sheldon was led by Kaleb Ackerman with 11 points. He scored 9 of his 11 in the second half.

With the win Boyden Hull is 19-3 heading into Tuesdays District final. Sheldon ends the season with a 7-16 record.
