Sioux Center, Iowa – Dordt University has announced Jon Crane will serve as the next women’s and men’s golf coach for the Defenders.
“I’m pleased Jon has accepted the position to lead our golf programs. Through this process he has exhibited an ability and willingness to use golf as a tool to build relationships. I believe Jon will lead student-athletes and teach them to be servant leaders and to pursue excellence in both their academic and athletic pursuits. I believe time spent in our golf program will allow students to grow in and strengthen their faith,” said Dordt athletic director Ross Douma. “Jon will be a fantastic asset not only for our golf program and athletic department but for our university.”
Crane has extensive experience in the golf industry most recently as the Director of Golf Operations at The Club at Porto Cima from 2005-2018 and he was the Head Professional and Managing Director at the same course from 2000-2005. Prior to his time at Porto Cima, Crane worked at the Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi from 1996-2000 as Assistant Professional, Merchandise Manager and Head Professional at different times during his time there.
Upon his graduation from Mississippi State University Crane worked as a golf staff assistant at Long Cove Club at Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
“I am excited for the opportunity to work with student-athletes, particularly golfers, at Dordt. I believe we have a fantastic home course in The Ridge, which, coupled with Dordt University’s educational opportunities, makes this very attractive for golfers looking to continue their careers,” said Crane. “I look forward to developing student-athletes not only as golfers, but as servant leaders who are equipped to pursue their passions as Christians.”
Crane is a native of Rock Valley, Iowa and attended Central Missouri State where he earned a varsity letter with the golf team.
