SIOUX CENTER — The All Star White teams defeated the All Star Black teams as seniors from the Siouxland, War Eagle and Lakes Conferences got together for the Defender Gold Club All-Star Games held at Dordt College’s DeWitt Gymnasium Saturday night.
Sheldon Orab Collin Wolthuizen scored 19 points while Steven Kragt of Sioux Center added 17 for the White squad in a 105-101 win over Defender Black in the boy’s all-star game. Three other team members hit double figures including Grant Metzger from Central Lyon who posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Tyler Borchers, who led Le Mars to a runner-up finish in the Class 3A state tournament, paced Defender Black with 21 points. Borchers and Kragt shared most valuable honors.
In the Girls All Star Game Emma Dau from Spirit Lake and Ashton Connelly from Emmetsburg scored 14 points each leading the Defender White All Star girls team to a 58-52 win over Defender Black. Kassidy DeJong, who led Unity Christian to the Class 2A state title, led the White squad with 10 points. DeJong and Connelly shared MVP honors.
Ashton Connelly from Emmetsburg and Spirit Lake’s Alec Henrickson each won three-point shooting contests that also highlight in the Defender Gold Club All-Star Games. A total of 19 schools were represented at this year’s game.
