Defenders Claim Men’s Volleyball All-GPAC Honors

Sioux Center, Iowa — Honors for the recently completed 2022 GPAC Men’s Volleyball season have been announced and the Dordt Defenders had seven athletes earn honors in the voting done by the conference coaches.

Andres Guzman (Sophomore; Bogota, Columbia), Caleb Kulesza (Junior; Chicago, Illinois) and Rob Piekarz (Freshman; Warsaw, Poland) were all named to the first team while Brady Frost (Freshman; Neenah, Wisconsin) and Luke Nelson (Junior; Plymouth, Minnesota) were named to the second team. Dylan Kooiman (Sophomore; Tinley Park, Illinois) and Lukas Van Groningen (Freshman; Manteca, California) were honorable mention picks.

Guzman is a repeat first team selection from 2021 and averaged 2.15 kills, 1.7 digs and totaled 15 service aces this season. Kulesza also repeats as a first team choice and led the team with 3.9 kills per set and he had a .269 kill efficiency while getting to 2.13 digs per set. Kulesza also had 25 service aces to lead the team. Piekarz played libero for the Defenders this season and led the team with 3.37 digs per contest and he had 13 service aces.

Frost was good for 2.13 kills per set in his first collegiate campaign and he had 17 service aces. Nelson averaged 1.95 kills per set with nearly a point per set on blocks and he had 11 ace serves.

Kooiman averaged nearly a block and a kill per set while Van Groningen put up 8.7 assists per set with seven service aces and he averaged 1.47 digs per contest.

The Defenders finished the season 8-9 overall and 7-3 in the conference and were the regular season runner-up. Dordt also finished the season in the semifinal round of the GPAC Tournament.
