Defenders Sweep GPAC Men’s Track And Field Honors

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following men’s outdoor track & field athletes-of-the-week for events held March 18-24, 2019. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2018-2018 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes-of-the-Week

Field Events – Ike Van Kempen, Dordt College

Ike Van Kempen of Dordt is this week’s field athlete-of-the-week. Van Kempen, a senior from Jenison, Michigan, competed against a field made up of mostly NCAA Division I and II athletes at the Wayne State Wildcat Classic. He was second in the discus at the meet with a throw of 49.02m. He is currently first in conference standings, third in the NAIA and has met the NAIA A standard. After a throw of 46.92 in the hammer he sits at 16th on the nation list and 3rd in the GPAC.

Track Events – Matthew Van Eps, Dordt College

Dordt’s Matthew Van Eps is this week’s track athlete-of-the-week. Eps, a sophomore from Prinsburg, Minnesota, ran a split of 49 seconds as a part of the 4x400m relay that was sixth place at the Wayne State Wildcat Classic with a time of 3:22.14. He won the 800m at the event in 1:56.04. Both of those times are top times in the GPAC so far this season.
