Dominate Net Play Leads To NWC Sweep Against CSM

Northwestern College dominated play on both sides of the net in its 3-0 sweep against College of Saint Mary in a GPAC volleyball match played tonight in Omaha, Neb. Individual scores were 25-12, 25-14, 25-19.

The Raiders extended its win streak to eight games, improving to 10-1 (GPAC), 12-1 overall.

Northwestern hit .256 for the match and totaled a season-high 14 blocks in limiting the host Flames to 28 kills and 4% kill efficiency. Two Raiders, Anna Wedel and Makenzie Fink, hit for double figures with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Emily Van Ginkel contributed eight kills and both Van Ginkel and Macay Van’t Hul were in on seven blocks.

The Raiders hit .600 in a 25-12 first set win, totaling 15 kills in 25 attacks, and set the tone for entire match. Head Coach Kyle Van Den Bosch’s squad prevented the Flames from getting any momentum in set two, leading from start to finish in a 25-14 victory. Game three was the closest as College of Saint Mary held a 12-11 advantage; Northwestern, however, outscored the hosts 14-7 to finish the sweep.

Lacey Reitz, the reigning GPAC / NAIA Setter of the Week, totaled 37 assists and seven digs. Emily Strasser, the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week, led the backrow play with 23 digs. Taylor Meyer served a career-best four aces.
