Dordt Football Cruises In Homecoming Win

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defenders scored 21 unanswered points in the first half and went on to defeat Dakota Wesleyan 45-13 in GPAC play on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.

Dordt allowed a field goal in the first quarter after a fumble gave Dakota Wesleyan a short field to work with but the Defenders responded with a 35 yard run by Josh Bush for one score and a pass from Tyler Reynolds to Hayden Large for another to lead 14-3.

The second time Bush got the ball he went 59 yards for a 21-3 lead with 12:47 left in the half and both teams scored field goals in the final 5:35 to get to the intermission 24-6.

Scoring drives of 65, 80 and 97 yards followed for the Defenders as they went on to win 45-13. Levi Jungling scored on two of the drives with catches of 26 and 72 yards. Anthony Trojahn also plowed in from four yards out as for different Defenders scored touchdowns. Wesleyan’s score came on a six play-78 yard drive to ended the scoring.

Dordt outgained Dakota Wesleyan 558-441 with 221 yards passing and 347 yards rushing.

Dordt’s Josh Bush rushed three times for 107 yards and Anthony Trojahn ran 15 times for 82 yards.

Ethan Thomas had five carries for 69 yards and Tyler Reynolds ran 12 times for 46 yards and Carter Schiebout had five for 37.

Tyler Reynolds was 11-16 passing for 139 yards and completed seven passes to Levi Jungling for 134 yards and Hayden Large had two catches for 56 yards.

Tanner Millikan led the defense with 10 tackles and Abe Stoesz and Brayton Van Kekerix each had seven tackles.

Nathan Kabongo had two interceptions.

Dordt is now 5-1 and will face Morningside on Saturday in Sioux City. Dakota Wesleyan is 3-3 in the league and 3-4 overall.
