Dordt Football Dominates Hastings

Hastings, Nebraska — The Dordt Defender football team traveled to Hastings, Nebraska and handed the Broncos a 61-10 loos in GPAC play Saturday afternoon, September 11.

The game, played with temperatures in the upper 90s, saw the Defenders rack up a program record 738 yards on the way to their first win of the season.

Dordt wasted little time in taking a 7-0 lead when Anthony Trojahn sored from five yards out to end a 62-yard drive with 11:52 left in the quarter. The Defenders again at the 5:04 mark of the period when Carter Schiebout scored his first touchdown of the season as he weaved in from two yards out to finish a 79 yard drive that took ten plays and included a pair of third-down conversions.

Hastings got three points on a field goal early in the second quarter but the Defenders answered with another Schiebout two-yard run as he took a pitch from Tyler Reynolds and Ethan Thomas found Levi Jungling for a 32 yard touchdown pass with 1:55 left in the half.

The two teams managed 10 points in the final two minutes with Hastings striking for a 75 yard touchdown run and Brett Zachman snaked through a line drive field goal attempt from 41 yards out as time expired to end the half with Dordt up 30-10.

Dordt quickLy added to the lead with Reynolds completing a pass to Jungling from 22 yards out after Anthony Trojahn ran for 53 yards on the first play from scrimmage in the half. Dordt’s next two scores came with freshman Kade McDaniel helping to engineer drives of 99 and 90 yards to build a 51-10 lead. McDaniel raced 66 yards for one of the scores.

Josh Bush added one more touchdown on a two yard run and Zachman hit a 37 yard field goal as the Defenders never punted in the game.

Dordt piled up 738 yards of offense with 263 passing and 475 rushing. Hastings had 93 passing yards and 139 rushing.

Trojahn ran for 166 yards on 11 carries and scored twice. McDaniel ran six times and had 101 yards rushing.

Nick Wellen and Carter Schiebout had 63 and 58 yards respectively.

Thomas was 9-12 passing for 106 yards and Reynolds completed 7-9 passes for 106 yards.

McDaniel completed 5-6 passes for 51 yards.

Jungling caught nine passes for 130 yards and two scores and Eli Boldan had seven catches for 62 yards.

Drew Daum highlighted the Dordt defense with two sacks and seven tackles and Abe Stoesz, Colton Vander Berg and Jessup Leakey all had a sack.

Dordt had five sacks while allowing one.

Dordt’s 738 yards of offense is five better than the previous mark of 733 set in 2019 against Hastings.

Dordt is now 1-1 while Hastings falls to 0-2. The Defenders will host Concordia this Saturday, September 18 at 1:00.
