Dordt Football Runs To Victory

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defender football team won a 57-22 decision from Dakota Wesleyan in GPAC football on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center. The Defenders led from start to finish and piled up a record 563 yards on the ground in improving to 3-2 this season and 2-1 in the GPAC.

Levi Schoonhoven raced 54 yards for Dordt’s first score just over three minutes into the game. Wesleyan answered with a drive that ended with a fumble and Dordt again to set up a score with Noah Clayberg running 54 yards to set up a Clayberg to Jake Dodge five yard touchdown pass fore a 14-0 lead after the two-point conversion.

Wesleyan did breath throw with a score on its next drive that was set up by an 86 yard kick return by Spencer Neugebauer.

Levi Jungling was Dordt’s third player to score as he took a revers on fourth and six from the 17 and got around the edge for the score with 2:29 left in the first quarter.

A Wesleyan fumble on a fake punt deep in their own territory led to a Brett Zachman field goal and the two teams exchanged touchdowns before the half ended with Clayberg going 31 yards for Dordt’s score and Wesleyan got a quarterback keeper for theirs. Wesleyan also turned the ball over on a Jalen Placide interception in the end zone that helped keep the score at 30-12 at halftime.

Dordt’s defense held Wesleyan to three and out on their first possession of the second half and Clayberg completed a 65 yard pass to Levi Jungling to put the Defenders up 37-12. Brett Zachman converted another field goal from 36 yards in the second half and Carter Schiebout and Anthony Trojahn scored on runs of 46 and 12 yards as Dordt ran away with the 57-22 win.
