Dordt Football Tops Briar Cliff

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt University football team secured its seventh win of the season with a 43-7 victory over Briar Cliff on Saturday.

Dordt’s only scoring possession in the first quarter came on a nine play 38-yard drive capped off by a Brett Zachman field goal. The Defenders held strong defensively over the rest of the first quarter and went into the second with a 3-0 lead.

Zachman finished a 12 play 44-yard drive with 11 minutes to go in the second to make it 6-0. Zachman’s number was called two more times in the second quarter and he converted on both to give Dordt the 12-0 lead.

The Defenders scored a touchdown with 16 seconds left in the second to make it 19-0. Noah Clayberg found Levi Jungling on a two yard pass and Zachman converted the extra point.

Rashad Brown put Briar Cliff on the board after catching a 22-yard touchdown from Diontre Collins-Jones with 4:30 to go in the third. The catch finished a six play 89-yard drive. Jesus Pena Lopez hit the extra point to make it 19-7.

Levi Schoonhoven made it 26-7 two minutes later. It was the finishing touch to a five play 81-yard drive.

Zachman converted his fifth field goal of the game two minutes into the fourth to make it 29-7 in favor of Dordt.

Jungling scored his second touchdown of the game six minutes later and a Zachman field goal made it 36-7.

With four minutes left in the fourth, David Kacmarynski finished off his impressive day with an interception for a touchdown. He returned the Collins-Jones pass 26 yards and Zachman gave Dordt the 43-7 victory.
