Dordt has two Athletes Named GPAC Volleyball Players of the Week

Sioux City, Iowa — The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports has announced the Volleyball players-of-the-week for contests played August 21st through the 27th. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2017-2018 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week

Dordt’s Ema Altena is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week. Altena, a junior, from Sioux Center averaged 4.27 kills per set, racking up 64 total kills over five matches as the second-ranked Defenders went to 5-0 on the week. Two of the victories came over ranked opponents. She had 20 kills, 13 assists and a pair of blocks in a three-set sweep of ninth-ranked Corban Oregon.

Jamie Gesink also of Dordt College is this week’s Setter-of-the-Week. Gesink, also a junior from Sioux Center averaged 10.53 assists per set in five matches. She also added 37 digs and 21 kills to go along with her setting numbers. She compiled a double double with 38 assists and 14 digs in a three-set sweep of ninth-ranked Corban Oregon. Both Gesink and Altena are graduates of Western Christian High School.

Morningside libero Nikki Oberfoell is this week’s Defender-of-the-Week. Oberfoell, a senior from Brighton, Colorado, averaged 4.27 digs per set in the Mustangs’ four matches at the Northwestern Red Raider Classic. She had match-high totals of 21 digs against Dakota State and 19 digs against Mayville State in a pair of victories for the Mustangs’ on Saturday.
