Dordt Men Down DWU

Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt University pulled away over the final 10 minutes to earn a 72-58 win against Dakota Wesleyan in a conference game played Saturday afternoon in the DeWitt Gym.

Both teams are now 3-3 in the GPAC; Dordt improves to 11-4 overall while DWU slips to 6-7.

Bryce Coppock led all players with 20 points, his fifth 20-point effort of the season. Cade Bleeker contributed 14 points and seven rebounds and Luke Rankin added 12 points, 10 coming in the second half.

With Dordt leading by nine (32-23) at the break, Dakota Wesleyan outscored the hosts 20-10 and took its first lead (43-42) since the beginning moments of the game.

Coppock and Bleeker sparked a 9-0 run, however, as Dordt surged ahead for good, 51-43, with 8:44 left to go.

Dakota Wesleyan trimmed the Defenders advantage down to five (55-50) one final time, only to have the hosts score the next seven points, ending with a Bleeker three-pointer, to put the game away.

Dordt shot 46% for the game and dominated the glass to a 40-26 advantage over the Tigers. Jacob Vis gave the Defenders a fourth player in double figures with 10 points to go with eight rebounds.

DWU shot 39% for the game and was limited to 27% (7/26) from the three-point line, well below their season average. Mason Walter led the Tigers with 18 points before fouling out during the final minutes.

Dordt used a trio of 7-0 runs over the first 20 minutes to take a 32-23 advantage at halftime.

This was the final game for the Defenders prior to the new year. They will resume GPAC play with a road game against Mount Marty on January 1.
