The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team knocked off Mount Marty on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center for its sixth win in a row in an 11 point victory at the De Witt Gym.

Mount Marty controlled much of the first half, building a six point lead at one point 20-14 with 13:36 left in the half. A Jacob Vis basket four minutes later gave Dordt a 28-27 lead and Cade Bleeker converted a two-point basket with 6:55 left in the half for a 30-27 advantage.

The score was tied at 39, 42 and 44 before Garrett Franken’s three-point shot with :59 left in the half gave Dordt a 47-44 halftime lead.

The second half was tight to start with a Franken field goal with 15:29 tying the game at 55-55. It was the 11th tie of the game and it was the last time the score was tied. Jesse Jansma got a couple free throws and then added a two-point shot for a 59-55 lead and Mount Marty responded with a three-point shot from Allen Wilson to make it 59-58.

Jansma answered with a three-point shot to re-establish a four point lead and a technical foul was assessed against Mount Marty on the ensuing possession and Jansma made both free throws for a six point lead. Dejay Fykstra added a two-point shot and Jansma a couple more free throws to establish a 68-58 lead with 10:36 left in the game.

The lead grew to 13 at 73-60 but the Lancers battled back by closing the gap to 80-75 with 4:37 left in the game and it was 86-81 with 2:22 remaining. A Franken basket put Dordt up by seven and the game was never in doubt after that.

Dordt is now 8-4 in the GPAC and 13-4 overall while Mount Marty falls to 7-10 overall and 4-8 in the league.

Dordt will host Jamestown on Thursday night, January 14 before traveling to Hastings on Saturday, January 16.
