Dordt Men Lose Road Game

Crete, Nebraska — The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team was done in by a below average shooting day and lost on the road to the Doane Tigers Saturday afternoon, January 23 in Crete, Nebraska.

Dordt’s 39.3 percent shooting and 30.8 percent second half success led to the 14 point loss.

Dordt trailed by as many as eight points in the first half but managed to take a five point lead into halftime when Jesse Jansma scored on a putback of a missed shot as time expired.

After a Doane basket to start the second half the Defenders got back to back baskets by Cade Bleeker and Jacob Vis to push the lead to 46-40 with 18:19 left in the game. The Tigers answered with an 11-0 run over the next two minutes and never trailed again.

The lead ballooned to as much as seven but Dordt cut it down to 65-62 with 7:52 left in the game on a Garrett Franken basket. Doane answered with a three-point shot as the shot clock expired and the 68-62 lead held for the next two minutes as neither team was able to score.

A Doane basket ended the drought and the game was never closer than eight the rest of the way with Doane winning 83-69.

Jacob Vis had 14 points along with Jesse Jansma and Jansma also had four assists.

Garrett Franken added 13 points and nine rebounds and Cade Bleeker added nine and Bryce Coppock eight.
