Dordt Men On The Road To Concordia

The Dordt Defender men’s basketball team will travel to face Concordia on Saturday, November 21 at 4:00 pm in Seward, Nebraska.

Concordia is 5-1 this season and 2-0 in league play with GPAC wins over Midland (82-55) and Northwestern (77-74). The Bulldogs started the season with a 72-69 loss to Tabor and have since strung together five wins in a row.

The Bulldogs average 87.8 points per game and allow 66 points per game with a 42.3-35.3 rebounds per game average. Concordia is converting 47 percent of its field goals and 35 percent of its three-point shots. Teams are making 40 percent of their field goal tries and 33 percent of its three-point shots.

The Defender men are 5-1 after beating Kansas Wesleyan (83-80), Bellevue (87-76), Viterbo (77-67), Presentation (98-59) and Midland (83-72). The Defenders suffered their first loss of the season on November 18 by an 80-78 score.

Dordt converts 50.7 percent of its field goals while outscoring teams 84.3-72.3 and the Defenders try 10 more free throws per game than opponents. Dordt has outrebounded teams 39.0-34.7 and limit opponents to 43.3 percent field goal shooting and 32.4 percent three-point shooting. Dordt is making 50.7 percent of its shots and 33.8 from long range.

Jacob Vis scores 16.3 points per game while getting 8.3 rebounds per game. He is converting 67 percent of his field goals and has eight blocked shots. Jesse Jansma scores 15.2 points per game and has 12 three-point baskets so far this season and Garrett Franken has a 14.3 points per game average with a team high 7.8 rebounds per contest. Franken and Jansma are both averaging over three assists per game. Cade Bleeker and Bryce Coppock score 11.2 and 7.5 points per game and Camden Bialas is at 6.0 points per game. Dejay Fykstra has lifted his scoring average to 5.0 and Ben Gesink scores 5.3 points per game with 2.8 assists per outing.

Dordt will host Briar Cliff on Tuesday night, November 24 before traveling to Morningside on Wednesday, December 2.
