Dordt Men’s Basketball Faces Morningside Wednesday Night

Dordt will host Morningside on Wednesday, January 20 at 8:00 pm.

The Mustangs are 15-2 this season and 11-2 in the league with losses to Jamestown and Dakota Wesleyan. The Mustangs have won five in a row since a 75-60 home loss to Dakota Wesleyan on December 16.

Trey Brown leads the team with a 17.4 points per game average and he gets 10.6 rebounds per game while converting 63.2 percent of his field goal tries. Zach Imig is averaging 11.8 and Will Pottebaum scores 10.6 points per game. Aidan Vanderloo is scoring 9.7 points per game and is making 57.4 percent of his three-point shots and Trey Powers is at 8.4 points per game.

The Defender men are 15-4 overall and 10-4 in the GPAC and takes an eight-game winning streak into the game against the Mustangs. Dordt has won nine of its last 10 contests.

Dordt converts 51.1 percent of its field goals while outscoring teams 84.5-75.3 and outrebound teams 37.5-33.2. Opponents make 43.9 percent of their field goals and the Defenders have converted 164 three-point shots with 35.7 percent success.

Garrett Franken scores 16.2 points per game with 7.6 rebounds and he hands out 2.9 assists per game while making 51 percent of his field goals. Jesse Jansma scores 15.3 points per game with a team high 4.0 assists per game and he is making 47 percent of his field goals. Jacob Vis is scoring 12.7 points per game with 6.1 rebounds and he is making 68 percent of his field goal tries and has a team high 20 blocked shots. Cade Bleeker adds 11.4 points per game and Bryce Coppock is averaging 8.8. Dejay Fykstra is converting 5.4 points per game and he makes 66 percent of his field goals while Ben Gesink is averaging 6.1 points per game. Camden Bialas has lifted his scoring average to 5.4 points per game with 17 blocks and he is making over 70 percent of his field goal tries. Jansma has 35 made three-point shots while Bleeker and Coppock each have 32.

Morningside handled Concordia on Saturday 95-77 and the Mustangs had a 49-40 halftime lead. Trey Powers had a team high 18 points off the bench while going a perfect 6-6 from the field. Brown added 17 points and 10 rebounds and Pottebaum was good for 15 points. Imig added 11 points and grabbed five rebounds with seven assists.

The Defenders overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Hastings 94-75, outscoring the Broncos 56-35 while converting 61 percent of its second half field goal tries. Ben Gesink led the Defenders with a career high seven three-point baskets and 21 points. Jacob Vis added 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Dordt will travel to face Doane on Saturday, January 23 at 4:00 pm.
