Dordt Softball Drops Doubleheader To Morningside

Sioux City, Iowa — The Dordt Defender softball team lost an 8-0 and a 4-2  decidion to Morningside in Great Plains Athletic Conference action on Friday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Defenders allowed two runs in the third of game one, and three in the fourth and Morningside ended it with three in the sixth inning to end the game by the eight run difference rule.

Dordt was outhit 9-3 with Kenzie Cunard recording a double while Hannah Sikkema and Erin Bredemus each had singles.

Abby Kraemer took the loss and struck out two and walked three.

The Dordt Defenders scored two in the first inning when Rachel Evavold singled with runners on first and second and a throwing error allowed one run to score.  A ground out by Hailey Heeringa got Jessica Oules across and Dordt had a 2-0 lead.

The Mustangs came back with an unearned run in the third and then three more runs came for the Mustangs in the bottom of the fifth on a combination of a hit, a pair of walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball.

Rachel Evavold went the distance and was charged with one earned run and struck out seven with four hits allowed.

Kenzie Cunard and Jessica Oules each had two hits while Rachel Evavold and Chandler Schemper had a single each.

Dordt is now 6-10 in the GPAC and 17-21 overall. Morningside is 15-1 in the league and 37-4 overall.

Dordt will face the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska on Saturday afternoon in GPAC play.
