Dordt Softball Wins Two In Florida

Kissimmee, Florida — The Dordt softball team extended their winning streak to seven on Saturday in Kissimmee, Florida taking the first game against Calument 6-3, and toppling Spring Arbor 11-3.

The Defenders played Calumet Saturday morning in the first of a week of games in Kissimmee, Florida. Calumet got on the board first, sending across two runs in the 2nd inning. They added a home run in the top of the 4th inning to extend their lead to 4 runs.

In the bottom of the 6th, Dordt’s Rachel Evavold singled to open the inning, as the first six batters of the inning reached base. The Defenders scored two on Emma Veenstra’s single and two runners advanced to scoring position. Ella Koster then brought in two runs on a single to left field before Ivy Terpstra and Ella Koster scored on a fielding error, taking a 6-3 lead.

The Defender softball team extended their winning streak to seven games with a win vs. Spring Arbor in their second Saturday game.

Dordt got out to a quick start, scoring five runs in the 1st inning to take an early lead. Kenzie Cunard was first to score on Chandler Schemper’s single to right field. Brooklyn Van Oort then drove in two runs, as Rachel Evavold and Erin Bredemus came across the plate to take a 3-0 lead. Schemper made it home on a wild pitch, and Van Oort scored from third on a defensive error.

Spring Arbor responded with two runs in the bottom of the 1st on three hits.

With a 5-2 lead, Dordt scored in the 3rd inning on Hannah Sikkema’s double. The Defenders had another big inning in the 4th, scoring five runs. Ella Koster hit a two-out triple that brought in Brooklyn Van Oort and Karli Olsen, as Dordt extended their lead to 11-3, a score that would hold for the remainder of the contest.

Chandler Schemper was 2-4 with 2 RBI

Brooklyn Van Oort had 3 RBI on a 2-3 outing

Ella Koster had 3 RBI

Abby Kraemer had 5 strikeouts on 5.0 innings pitched

Dordt’s next games will be on Monday vs. Bellevue and University of Northwestern (Ohio). Those games will begin at 12:30 pm and 2:45 pm CST.
