The Dordt Defender volleyball team had to battle a pesky Mount Marty squad to earn its ninth win of the conference season on Friday night in Yankton.
The Defenders used an 8-2 run to take a 13-7 lead in set one after a block by Brenna Krommendyk and Alli Timmermans. The lead was still four after a Karsyn Winterfeld kill made it 19-15 but the hots crept back to within 20-19. The teams swapped points to 22-21 before a Jori Bronner and Jessi De Jager block gave Dordt a two point lead and they eventually won the set 25-22 on a De Jager kill.
Mount Marty led as late as 13-12 in set two but a service error followed by a Corrina Timmermans kill put Dordt up 14-13. The lead eventually ballooned to 20-14 and Dordt rolled to a 25-16 win.
Dordt’s largest lead was three in the third set up to 22-19 when a Hanna Connelly ace serve put the Defenders up 23-19. Mount Marty got the lead back to two points twice at 23-21 and again at 24-22 but Jori Bronner ended the set and match with a kill for the 25-22 win.
