Dordt Volleyball Sweeps Doane

The Dordt Defenders fought back from an early deficit in set one to sneak out a win and then rolled to wins in sets two and three in GPAC volleyball on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center.

Dordt’s start was slow as the Defenders dug themselves into a 5-1 hole. The Defenders tried to rally but kept coming up short until they finally took the lead at 18-17 on a block by Brenna Krommendyk and Corrina Timmermans. Ties followed at 18, 20, 21 and 22 before back to back points on a Jessi De Jager kill and a Doane attack error. A service error allowed Doane to get within 24-23 but De Jager finished the set with a kill.

Set two was all Dordt as the host got out to a 10-4 lead and the lead was never less than four on the way to a 25-11 win. Dordt then pulled away from a 8-7 edge to lead 14-9. The Defenders got to set point 24-16 on a Jori Bronner kill but Dordt didn’t score the winning point until Karsyn Winterfeld put a kill down to make the final 25-19.

Dordt will travel to Sioux City to face Briar Cliff on Tuesday, October 20. The match is the first of three in a row on the road as Dordt travels to face Mount Marty on Friday, October 23 and the College of Saint Mary in one week.
