Dordt Volleyball Tops DWU

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defender volleyball team pulled away late in all three sets of its match with Dakota Wesleyan to move to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.

Dordt never relinquished the lead in set one and pulled away from a 14-12 lead to a 18-12 advantage with two kills by Karsyn Winterfeld and a block by the senior. A four point run later in the set put the contest out of reach for Dakota Wesleyan and it was Brenna Krommendyk and Corrina Timmermans teaming up for a block to finish the set 25-17.

Set two featured 19 ties with 14 of them coming up to 14-14. Dordt got a kill from Alli Timmermans to start a three-point run but the Tigers came back from the 17-14 deficit to eventually lead 21-20. A Corrina Timmermans kill tied it and Krommendyk gave Dordt the lead at 22-21 with a kill.

Wesleyan tied it at 22-22 but two kills by Corrina Timmermans and one by Alli Timmermans gave Dordt a 25-22 win.

Set three was a story of Dordt’s defense at the net as the Defenders piled up seven points off of blocks and took the lead for good at 3-2. Wesleyan kept it close up until the 15-13 mark when Winterfield recorded a kill and the Defenders eventually got up 20-15 before winning by the six point margin 25-19.

Dordt will host Morningside on Saturday, September 12 with the junior varsity starting at 11:00 AM and the varsity is scheduled for a 12:30 PM start.
