Dordt Women Host Final Home Game Of Regular Season Saturday

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defenders will host Doane in women’s basketball on Saturday, February 12 at 2:00 pm. The Defenders will recognize the seniors associated with the program at halftime of the men’s game.

Doane is 10-17 this season and 4-15 in the league with conference wins over Midland twice, the College of Saint Mary and Mount Marty. Doane has lost three games in a row and is 1-9 in its last 10 games.

The Defenders have won 14 games in a row since an 80-75 loss to Dakota Wesleyan on December 11. Five of Dordt’s six losses came in a stretch from November 17-December 11. Dordt is 21-6 this season and 14-5 in the GPAC and stand second in the league.

Dordt is outscoring teams 75-65 and outrebound teams 39-34. Dordt converts 44 percent of its field goals and allow 39 percent success and the Defenders make 32 percent of their three-point shots while defending at a 31 percent success.

Ashtyn Veerbeek averages 18.2 points per game with 9.2 rebounds and converts 51 percent of her field goals and averages 3.1 blocked shots per game with 2.2 assists. Bailey Beckman scores 12.4 points per game and has 49 made three-point shots and is converting 38 percent of her three-point shots. Karly Gustafson is at 11.6 points per game with 7.6 rebounds and she makes 51 percent of her field goals. Janie Schoonhoven’s average is 8.3 and she gets 5.3 rebounds and her field goal percentage is 64. Hayden Heimensen adds 7.8 points per game with 31 made three-point shots and Mya Chmielewski is at 7.0 points per game. Macey Nielson has 32 made three-point field goals.

Dordt will travel to face Northwestern on Wednesday night while Doane is at Mount Marty. The Defenders conclude the regular season on Saturday at Jamestown.
