Dordt Women’s Five Game Win Streak Snapped

Dordt looked to build on a five-game winning streak heading into a home GPAC contest, but the visitors came away with the win tonight in Thursday’s conference matchup.

Both teams remained close throughout the first quarter as the offenses traded baskets through the opening minutes. After Karly Gustafson’s three-point shot gave the Defenders a 13-10 lead with 3:25 left in the quarter, Jamestown went on a 7-0 run to take a four-point lead late in the quarter. Each team added another bucket before the end of the quarter to make the score 19-15 Jamestown after the first.

Jamestown continued to add to their lead in the second, holding a 12-point advantage following Emma Stoehr’s free throws. Dordt tried to spark momentum with a Siennah Stamness three followed by a block from Erika Feenstra, but the Jimmies continued to add to their lead, making the halftime score 36-22.

Dordt started to move closer in the third quarter as they cut the deficit to single-digits with a three from Ashtyn Veerbeek to make the score 38-30. The Defenders came as close as 5 points in the fourth quarter when Jordyn Winterfeld scored a couple of free throws to make the score 51-46 with 6:15 to go. Jamestown then built up the lead to 12 points with a Hannah DeMars made shot and sealed a 69-58 victory with free throws late in the game.
