Foltz Garners Second GPAC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – For the second time this season, Northwestern junior goalkeeper Ezekiel Foltz (Sioux Center, Iowa/Sioux Center) has earned the Hauff Mid-America Sports/Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Leading the Raiders to a 1-0-1 week recording shutouts in both matches, Foltz recorded 16 saves keeping both Waldorf and Briar Cliff off the scoreboard in the two matches.

“Zeke’s focus and preparation has been really solid this season, and we needed that from him in our two matches last week,” said head coach Dan Swier. “It was fun to watch him compete at a high level.”

On Saturday’s Homecoming match against Briar Cliff, Foltz tallied five saves, helping propel Northwestern to a 1-0 start in league play for the first time since 2018. The biggest save of the night came in the 51st minute as the Chargers were awarded a penalty kick. Foltz guessed correctly and stymied BCU’s momentum, able to deflect the ball at the bottom left of the net to secure the shutout.

In the final non-conference clash of the season on Wednesday, September 15 at Waldorf Foltz was a major reason the game ended as a hard fought 0-0 draw instead of falling in the match. In 110 minutes of game action, Foltz had 11 saves to keep the Warriors off the board.

In his Northwestern career, the junior now holds a record of 16-7-2 at goal for the Raiders. Foltz also earned the honor on opening weekend back on August 31.

The Raiders continue their home stint this week with two matches at the NWC Soccer Complex. Northwestern is set to host No. 21-ranked Morningside (5-1, 1-0 GPAC) tomorrow night for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff, followed by a 3:15 p.m. kickoff against Concordia (Neb.) (3-3-1, 1-0 GPAC) on Saturday.
