Football Broadcast Preview For Friday October 16th

Northwest Iowa — The Iowa High School Football playoffs get underway Friday night. With a modified format due to the  COVID – 19 outbreak all teams are eligible for the first time. In Class 2A Sheldon will make a return trip to Orange City for their opener against Unity Christian. The two teams met for the first time during week 6 and Unity got the win 29-16 at Korver Field.

In the regular season matchup on October 2nd the Knight got up 14-8 at halftime then outscored the Orabs 15-8 in the second half to get the win. Unity comes in with a 4-3 season record going 2-3 in the district. Sheldon was 2-5 with a 1-4 district mark.

Sheldon Head Coach Tyler Lloyd says the first game with Unity does have meaning in round two.

What impressed the Orabs in the first meeting with the Kights still does.

The biggest key for a first round playoff win will be playing a “clean” game. Lloyd explains.

Unity Head Coach Josh Van Kempen talks about the lessons learned from the first meeting.

The Orabs running came came up big two weeks ago but Van Kempen knows his team will have to be ready for the pass as well.

There are a number of keys to a Knights win; but the biggest is being productive on offense.

2A’s District 1 will also be the 2A Pod 1 for the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Unity/Sheldon winner will be at Central Lyon George Little Rock in the next round. The District Champions earned a first round bye. The other bye went to West Lyon who will host the winner of MOC Floyd Valley at Sioux Center. The second round of the playoffs will be on Friday October 23rd.

The Coach Kory Roos joins LA for the broadcast. This week the action will come your way on KIWA FM 105.3. Pregame  begins at 6:30 from Korver Field with opening kickoff set for 7:00. Streamed from the website at www.kiwaradio.com.
