Former Mustang earns Indoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week

Dordt University’s Payton Mauldin is this week’s track athlete-of-the-week as announced by the Great Plains Athletic Conference Wednesday, January 31.

Mauldin, a senior, from George, Iowa, and former standout at George-Little Rock High School, hit the ‘A’ standard in two events and won three events at two different meets last weekend. On Friday night at the SDSU D2 Invite, Mauldin anchored the Defenders 4×800 relay that hit the ‘A’ standard with the No.1 time in the NAIA (7:40.18).

Mauldin then won both the 200m and 4×200 relay on Saturday at the Dennis Young Invite. He hit the ‘A’ standard in the 200m with the 10th fastest time in the NAIA (21.95) and then anchored the winning 4×200 relay with a school record time of 1:31.05. Mauldin has hit the ‘A’ standard in three individual events (200m, 600m and 800m) and two relays (4×400 and 4×800); having the No.1 time in four events (600m, 800m, 4×400 and 4×800).
