George Little Rock Applies To War Eagle Conference

During its meeting on September 20th the George-Little Rock School District Board of Education gave the approval to its administrators to leave the Siouxland Conference by formally applying to be a member of the War Eagle Conference.

The application has been sent and received by the War Eagle with acceptance still pending. If approved, George-Little Rock would join the War Eagle Conference for the 2023-2024 school year. George-Little Rock is waiting for the formal announcement but expects its application to the War Eagle to be approved.

George-Little Rock superintendent Tom Luxford said, “We’ve had conversations with the War Eagle schools, and the feedback we’ve gotten in those conversations seemed to indicate that they would welcome us with open arms. ”

The move would make the War Eagle a 12-team league if no current teams from the War Eagle Conference leaves. The conference currently includes Akron-Westfield, Le Mars Gehlen, Harris-Lake Park, Hartley Melvin Sanborn, Hinton, MMCRU, Remsen St. Mary’s, South O’Brien, Trinity Christian, Unity Christian, and West Sioux. In the past Unity Christian has attempted to get into the Siouxland Conference.

GLR is the smallest Siouxland Conference school. This spring Superintendent Luxford informed the other Siouxland superintendents that George-Little Rock would be looking into the possibility of changing conferences. Eventually, George-Little Rock held two public forums on the topic. One was held in George with the other in Little Rock.

In a related note George-Little Rock plans on continuing its sharing agreements with Central Lyon for football, cross country and wrestling. The Mustangs went their separate way for softball this past season.
