cid_image001_jpg01d24a34Sioux Center, Iowa — Ben Gesink, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.

Gesink played point guard for the Western Wolfpack the last two seasons and helped Western to a 2016 state title and a state tournament berth in 2015. He averaged nine points a game last season and averaged three rebounds and three assists per game with 1.5 steals. In 2015 Gesink averaged 10.8 points per game with a little over three rebounds and nearly four assists per game. He was also a reserve on the 2014 team that won a state title.

A multi-sport athlete at Western, Gesink earned all-district and all-state honors in football this season as Western won a Class 1A title and he claimed second-team all-conference honors in basketball as a junior.

“We are very excited to have Ben join our basketball family. He is a dynamic guard who will continue to develop and improve over the course of the next several years while becoming a very good college player,” said Dordt College coach Ross Douma. “Ben will have an outstanding senior season under coach Bill Harmsen and has proven, playing for Jim Eekhoff, that he knows how to win at the highest level.

Moreover, Ben has developed leadership skills that will serve our campus community well in many capacities during his time here.”

Ben is the son of Kevin and Shelley Gesink of Sioux Center, Iowa.
