Hawkeye Baseball Needs Strong Finish

Iowa City, Iowa — The Iowa Hawkeye baseball team hopes to improve its post season chances this weekend by closing the regular season with a three game series at Michigan State.

The Hawkeyes are fifth in the Big Ten after dropping two of three at Northwestern. It was a series in which the Hawkeyes did not commit an error and the pitchers walked only seven batters.

That’s Iowa coach Rick Heller. Close losses have hurt their cause. In the last five weeks the Hawkeyes are 3-5 in games decided by one or two runs.

The Hawkeyes need to win and get some help to improve their NCAA hopes.

Michigan State is 17-24 on the season but the Spartans have won back-to-back series against Ohio State and Rutgers.

Heller hopes for a string finish to the regular season.
