Hayden Heimensen, a senior at Central Lyon High School (Iowa), has announced her intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender women’s basketball program.
“We are so excited to welcome Hayden to the Dordt community. Hayden has had a highly decorated high school basketball career garnering all-state honors as a junior and becoming Central Lyon’s all-time leading scorer. Hayden has the skill, work ethic and desire to be an excellent college basketball player. She embodies the Defender Way and we look forward to serving Hayden not only on the basketball floor but all facets of her life. Hayden’s impact will certainly be felt on Dordt’s campus community,” said Dordt women’s basketball coach Bill Harmsen.
Heimensen is a 5-8 guard and averaged 20.1 points per game for the Lions as they posted an 18-6 record. She also handed out over two assists per game with two steals and she got nearly four rebounds per game. Heimensen converted 36 percent of her three-point shots and earned first-team all-state, all-region, all-district and all-conference honors in 2019-20. She’s scored 1,145 career points for the LInos and has converted 118 career three-point shots and has 172 career assists. Heimense was a first-team all-conference selection as a sophomore and also claimed all-district honors that year.
“I really like Coach Harmsen, and when I went to open gyms with the girls, they treated me like I was one of them. Then, when I went on my visit and talked to some professors, I felt they cared about me more than just as a student. Everything felt right at Dordt,” said Heimensen.
Hayden is the daughter of Heather and Corey Heimensen of Rock Rapids, Iowa. She plans to enter the pre-Physical Therapy program at Dordt.
