Hiebner, Koepke Finish Strong at NAIA Championship

Anna Hiebner and Hunter Koepke completed their respective running careers for the Northwestern College women’s cross country team with a pair of outstanding performances Friday at the NAIA National Championship held at the Seminole Valley Cross Country course in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Both Northwestern runners finished among the top third of the 300-plus participants competing in today’s championship. Hiebner completed the 5K course with her second fastest time of her career, finishing 56th with a time of 18:47. Koepke crossed the finish line in a time of 19:02, also the second fastest time of her career, and in 83rd place, her best finish in two national championship races.

Hiebner was the third runner from the Great Plains Athletic Conference to cross the finish line, Koepke was the sixth GPAC runner.

Emma Wilson (Huntington), the 5K record holder at the NAIA championship, won the individual title in a time of 17:02, followed by Sierra Poppell (Kentucky Christian) at 17:38.
