Jacks Meet Salukis In Round 2 Of FCS Playoffs Sunday Night

Brookings, South Dakota — The South Dakota State University football team continues its postseason run Sunday night, hosting Southern Illinois in quarterfinal action in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.

Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. Central Time at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN2. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 7 a.m. Thursday through JackrabbitTickets.com, with approval recently granted for 50 percent capacity in the stadium.

The top-seeded Jackrabbits enter the matchup against their Missouri Valley Football Conference rival with a 6-1 overall record. SDSU has won its last five games, including a 44-3 victory at SIU on March 20. The Jackrabbits advanced to the quarterfinals with a 31-3 home win over Holy Cross on April 24.

Southern Illinois, meanwhile, improved to 6-3 on the season with a 34-31 victory at Weber State in the opening round of the playoffs last weekend. The Salukis were the lone road team to win out of the eight games contested.

Sunday’s game marks the 12th meeting on the gridiron between SDSU and Southern Illinois, a series that dates back to when the Jackrabbits joined the Missouri Valley Football Conference at the start of the 2008 season. By winning the last five meetings and eight of the last nine, the Jackrabbits hold an 8-3 series edge.
