Sioux Center Iowa — Jesse Jansma, a senior at Western Christian High School, has announced his intention to attend Dordt College and join the Defender basketball program.
Jansma, a 6-3 guard/forward, has helped the Wolfpack to a 2016 state title and a 47-5 record the past two seasons. He averaged 11.6 points per game this past season while pulling in 5.1 rebounds per game with 2.8 assists per game and he converted 45.9 percent of his three-point tries in 2015-16. As a sophomore Jansma converted 9.0 points per game with 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists and he converted 42.4 percent of his three-point shots that season.
At the conclusion of the 2015-16 season he was named second-team all-Lakes Conference and was named to the all-tournament team at the 2016 State Championships and was named the player of the game in the 2A title game. Jansma is listed 6-3, 190 pounds.
Dordt College coach Ross Douma said, “We are very pleased Jesse will be joining our program. He brings a great deal of stability and consistency to our team and understands what it takes to be successful at a high level. Playing for coach Jim Eekhoff, Jesse was a state champion a year ago, and will look to provide leadership for coach Bill Harmsen this season. Jesse is an ideal fit for Dordt College and we are proud he is our first signed recruit from the class of 2017.”
Jesse is the son of Kurt and Kim Jansma of Sioux Center, Iowa. He plans to study Business at Dordt College.
